Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

For the past several years, Nevada Partners has participated in the Earn It Keep It Save It community initiative, aimed at increasing the number of eligible Clark County residents claiming and receiving the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). We provide free tax return preparation and e-filing, delivered by IRS-certified volunteers, at our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site.

The EITC is a powerful tool for lifting low- to moderate-income individuals and families out of poverty. This past year, working taxpayers who earned less than $49,000 were potentially eligible for a refund of up to $5,600. In addition to giving families much-needed assistance, the EITC contributes to the community's overall self-sufficiency and financial stability by reinvigorating the local economy. Our efforts are particularly important in the current economic climate, with so many southern Nevadans dealing with financial hardship stemming from job loss, home foreclosure, and the lack of affordable healthcare.

Taxpayers must meet certain requirements and file a tax return to qualify for the EITC, even if they did not earn enough money to be required to file a return. Our free services ensure that hundreds of community members claim and receive their EITC refunds.

The Earn It Keep It Save It collaborative provided complimentary tax services to 5,980 qualified individuals and families between January and April 2011, returning more than $8.1 million in local tax refunds.

Nevada Partners' VITA site achieved impressive results. We prepared a total of 355 returns, resulting in $513,190 in refunds, a sizeable boost to the local economy. We helped 99 people claim the EITC refund, totaling $150,041, and helped 69 people claim the child tax credit, totaling $95,295.
